How to Get PEP

PEP is an emergency medication that is taken for 28 days to prevent HIV after a recent and possible exposure.

If you think you were exposed to HIV within the last 72 hours,

During business hours: immediately contact one of the PrEP Centers of Excellence.

After business hours:

 

*These hospitals require person to have medical insurance plan through Kaiser Permanente.

Please note that emergency rooms charge for their services. If you go to an emergency room you will be billed for the PEP services you receive. If you have insurance be sure to provide the information to them. Having insurance does not mean your visit will be covered.

Note that some emergency rooms may not be familiar with PEP or may attempt to refuse to give it to you.
