How to Get PEP

PEP is an emergency medication that must be taken for 28 days. You must start PEP within 72 hours for it to be effective.

If you think you were exposed to HIV, immediately contact one of the PEP centers below during regular business hours.

After normal business hours, if you think you were exposed to HIV, go immediately to the emergency room at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center or the emergency room at St. Mary’s Medical Center. The Cedars-Sinai emergency room is located at 8700 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90048. The St. Mary’s emergency room is located at 1050 Linden Ave. Long Beach, CA 90813Please note that emergency rooms charge for their services. If you go to an emergency room you will get billed for the PEP services you receive. If you have insurance be sure to provide the information to them. Having insurance does not mean your visit will be covered.

If after normal business hours you are unable to get to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center or St. Mary’s Medical Center, go to your nearest Emergency Room. Note that some emergency rooms may not be familiar with PEP or may attempt to refuse to give it to you.
